Poker’s
unwavering popularity stems from the one of a kind thrill that it brings on the
table. Unlike other casino games,
which become too stressful in the long run, poker’s excitement never stops. The
psychological warfare, the intense battle of wits and the festive celebration
of one’s victory explain why poker is more than just a mere betting game. It
can be considered as peculiar sports where skills and not just plain gut feel
determine the winner.
Over
the years, poker’s appeal has been coupled by the rise of its different
variants, which, in return provided different ways to enjoy this well-loved
game.
There
are four (4) poker variants that players can try. These are the following:
Straight
poker
– Under this variant, the player receives a complete hand and betting is only
performed in one round. This is the oldest of all the poker variants, but it
remains a favorite of many. Basically, this is preferred by those who want to
experience an intense and fast-paced game
Stud
poker
– If you are the type of player who enjoys the thrill of engaging into several
betting rounds, stud poker is the best variant for you. Here, you are dealt
with a combination of face-up and face-down cards, with betting rounds in
between.
Draw
poker
– Draw poker is more flexible than its counterparts. Here, you have better
opportunities to strategize since you are allowed to discard irrelevant cards
and then replace them
Community
poker
– With community poker, you are initially dealt with 2 cards. Five (5) more
cards are distributed and these are the so-called community cards. This means
that the rest of your opponent can also use them to form a strong hand. If you don’t mind “sharing” cards with your
rivals and enjoy the thrill of doing so, you will perfectly have some good time
playing this variant.
No
variant can be said to be superior than the other, since the differences are
minimal. Similar to blackjack, one cannot really say that blackjack switch is
better than blackjack surrender. It all depends on the player’s perspective.
Some player may find stud poker better than straight poker or vice versa. But
the point is, one cannot really create a normative list of a “better poker
variant.”
