Card exchange games: When a simple card switch saves the bankroll

It is not common for online casino card games to showcase variants that require (or allow) cards to be switched with another card face up or face down. Most games only need comparing or beating of cards. However, card exchange games are not necessarily absent in the gaming arsenal. In fact, they are favored by some punters for the thrill that they are able to produce. Most of these games are classified under the “Rummy” category.

Card exchanges happen when players feel the need to switch one of their cards with another in order to come up with a better hand. In the Rummy group of card games, drawing and discarding of cards are common.  Generally speaking, the main goal is to improve players’ hand by forming it into sets of cards that belong to the same rank or sequences in a suit. The basic move is to draw one or more cards from an “undealt” stock or from a pile of discarded cards (face-up).

In a more conventional sense (and possibly outside the electronic gaming arena), card exchanges are carried out by passing cards to or taking cards from the players’ neighbors. In some group games, a common pool of cards is set on a table and at the player’s turn, he or she may choose to exchange at least one card with that pool.

Rummy games are generally considered Chinese in origin. Although they are now very accessible and played in almost every corner of the world, games of their kind were virtually unknown in the West until the twentieth century.
