Poker facts you probably did not expect to have existed

Poker may not have the largest fan base of all casino games played in online casinos in Malaysia, Thailand, UK, and other markets, but it does have a major impact on the gaming career of numerous players who have become fond of it. Characterized by a couple million (this is not an exaggeration) of card combinations, tricky jargons, and mind-boggling payouts, this game is primarily played by the most passionate online casino gambling enthusiasts. However, even high-rollers and veterans do not have an absolute knowledge about the game—not necessarily in terms of the game play or mechanics but in the back stories that led to it or a part of it to becoming highly intriguing.

The following are some interesting facts about poker that many players are probably unaware of and could therefore be relatively surprising:

  • In contrast to the poker game that is played in most modern casinos, both on-land and online, the game’s highest cards in the early centuries were the Kings while Aces were valued as the lowest.
  • Many players, especially those who have already been playing poker for years, believe that they have already held every possible hand in the game. However, this could be a remote possibility as there are nearly 2.6 million card combinations that can be formed with the standard 52-card deck.
  • In the late 1930s, a fifth suit was added to the standard deck of cards, with a different variation depending on the region that it is played. In America, the suit was green and was called “Eagles” while in England, it was blue and was called the “Royals.” However, due to many players not wanting to buy additional cards, the concept of a 5th suit was immediately abandoned and failed to hold traction. Even in online poker, it is an extremely rare feature.
  • The “Dead Man’s Hand,” which consists of black bullets (ace of clubs, ace of spades) and black eights (eight of clubs, eight of spades), was named after the hand that Wild Bill Hickok—a famous gambler in the 19th century—was holding at the time of his death (the 5th card was unknown).
