Needless to say, roulette is a
staple table game
in almost—if not every—gaming dimension, whether on-land, virtual, or live online casinos. As one of the most
sought-after features in betting, the wheel game is played by all types of
casino players: newbies, conservatives, veterans, and high-rollers. However,
not everyone has a complete knowledge about the game apart from the basic
gaming mechanics. Especially in online casinos, this game has a relatively
mysterious background. Here are four of the most interesting facts that you
probably did not know about roulette:
1. The game’s wheel was invented
by the great Mathematician Blaise Pascal without actually intending it to
become a casino game. He was experimenting on the theory of perpetual motion
which was his way to prove that a matter can produce energy more than it needs.
His experiment failed but with the creativity of casino enthusiasts, it led to
the creation of the world’s first roulette game. As an online game,
roulette is played with a Random Number Generation (RNG) technology instead of
an actual wheel.
2. There are hundreds of
variations of online roulette,
dwarfing the number of variations that the game has in brick-and-mortar venues.
The variety was made in order to provide millions of players across the globe
with a wide selection of games where they can pick the ones that will serve
their needs best.
3. It is extremely rare for a
number to come up in consecutive occurrences. However, in July 2000, that
instance was exactly what happened when the number 7 came up six times in a row
at Roulette wheel #221 in a land-based casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The odds
for this result are out of this world, yet it still happened. Online, such
incident has not yet been reported to occur.
4. If you add up all the numbers
on a standard roulette wheel, the total would be exactly 666. This is why it is
often called as the “devil’s game,” with 666 being usually associated with the
aforesaid entity. However, the amount of winnings it produces is largely the
opposite of its moniker.
