Three Blackjack features that you should be aware of

Sure, you know the basics about online Blackjack. You thoroughly understand that the main goal is to achieve a hand whose value is or close to 21. You are aware that when you go over the said number, you will get busted. You are also certain that Aces can be either 1 or 11. And perhaps, you know that the game’s real-world counterpart has its roots in France. However, there a few other things that you need to understand about the game other than the fundamentals.

Have you heard about the terms “splitting,” “doubling,” and “insurance”? For newbies, these are familiar terms they usually encounter during online casino gambling but they seem to ignore them all the time. For the veteran players, however, they see these features as highly beneficial regardless of their experience, bankroll limits, or personal goals. They are not new to the game, but they are often unfairly ignored.

Splitting. This strategy is done when you are dealt with two cards of the same denomination. This is one of the best ways to beat the dealer, although it does not guarantee the highest payouts. By splitting your cards (most especially Aces and Eights), your chances of winning are doubled.

Doubling. To double down means to increase your bet (to as much as your original wager) once you already know what your first two cards are. This is best done when these cards have values between eight and 11 or when they form a soft hand, that is, an Ace plus another card. Your chances at earning bigger payouts using this strategy are so much better rather than just simply relying on the usual move because you are certain that your hand is or almost a blackjack.

Insurance. An “insurance” is an optional side bet that can be employed in situations where the dealer has an Ace showing and his other card is potentially a 10-pointer. This is best used when you are SURE that there are still 10-point cards left in the deck. The bet does not usually exceed half of your original bet and it pays 2-to-1, which means that even if the dealer earns a blackjack, the both of you will still come out even.
